Driveway Paving

The Look of a Freshly Paved Driveway or Parking Lot

The freshly paved driveway “look,” and the overall appearance of your driveway creates an impression about your home and property. As the National Asphalt Pavement Association puts it, “An inviting driveway provides a focal point as passersby and visitors approach your home.” The association goes on to say that a good-looking driveway also adds to the value of your property and is a good investment for you as a homeowner.

What is it made of and how is it applied to the driveway?

Asphalt is a mixture of stone, sand and liquid asphalt cement. It’s engineered to stay strong and in tact, and it’s engineered to look good, too. The mixture is heated and proportioned out while being liquefied at about 300 degrees F. After heating, the asphalt is placed. While it’s still hot, it will be applied to the driveway and then a base coat will be placed on top. Very soon after placement, the mixture will cool and harden.

Benefits of Asphalt Pavement

Pave your driveway this fall to prepare for the winter. Why would you want to do that? Well, we’ll tell you…

Asphalt pavement is:

  • Durable and strong
  • Withstands extreme cold and thawing
  • Unaffected by salt in the winter
  • Designed to flex/give with slight settlements or frost heave
Moreover, if a utility line passes under an asphalt driveway, repairs can be performed more easily and quickly than with concrete type driveways.
